Overview

Located in the bustling heart of Kota Damansara at 35, Jalan PJU 5/9, Damansara Uptown Hokkien Mee offers a compelling journey into the world of Chinese noodles. This unassuming eatery specializes in classic Malaysian-Chinese dishes, with their signature Hokkien Mee taking center stage. Known for its rich wok hei fragrance and balanced flavor, the Hokkien Mee here is a draw for locals and visitors alike seeking an authentic taste of this beloved noodle dish.

The restaurant’s menu showcases a variety of favorites, from the robustly seasoned fried rice to the distinctively textured kong fu yin yong—an intriguing blend of Cantonese fried noodles. Not to be overlooked are their fresh seafood offerings, such as the signature fried lala and succulent roast duck, which add depth and variety to the overall dining experience.

Ambiance-wise, Damansara Uptown maintains a straightforward setup that keeps diners comfortable without overwhelming the senses with cooking odors—a common trait in many dai chow establishments. While some have noted the air can feel a bit stuffy during busy times, this does not detract much from the inviting atmosphere that encourages repeat visits. The space seems well-suited for small groups or families who appreciate hearty, no-frills meals focused on the quality of food.

Feedback from diners reveals a mixture of perspectives. Enthusiasts praise the Hokkien Mee’s evolution—its recent improvements in flavor and reduced oiliness are well received. The fried rice remains a highlight, characterized by its strong seasoning that appeals to those who enjoy bold tastes. Seafood lovers will find the fresh prawns and flavorful lala particularly satisfying, while the roast duck rounds out the menu with traditional notes.

However, some guests have mentioned that the service pace can be slow during peak hours, and certain dishes like the wat tan hor may not consistently meet expectations. Yet, the overall consensus underscores a willingness among patrons to return, drawn primarily by the kitchen’s ability to capture the essence of classic Hokkien Mee.

Damansara Uptown Hokkien Mee is ideal for diners who seek an authentic, nostalgic noodle experience without the frills of upscale dining. Its location in Kota Damansara makes it accessible for those in Petaling Jaya and neighboring suburbs, catering mainly to families and noodle aficionados craving depth of flavor and the unmistakable wok hei aroma. Whether it’s a late-night craving or a casual meal, this spot promises a fulfilling taste of Malaysia’s rich Chinese culinary heritage.

One of the best Hokkien mee that I’ve tasted. Simply delicious. Well liked by myself and my family. A place that we will visit whenever we are in town. The Wat tan hor however was decent only, not as great as the Hokkien mee. Best part, they open until late night. Verdict: will come again and again

I was attracted to eat here because of the interior design, but unfortunately the taste of the food and the service were not what I expected. Their Hokkien Mee is pretty average, nothing special, and the prawns are a bit not fresh. If you just want to enjoy the vibes of an old restaurant, you can give it a try..but actually nothing feels like a nostalgic old restaurant we used to eat in except the decor.

Being a frequent customer, the hokkien Mee has improved recently since back then, it is less oily and more flavourful. However, the portion (mine was 2 pax) has become a lot smaller when I last remembered. (Nvm, it is just ours, other tables have the right amount...) The fried rice is still good, it's oily but strongly seasoned and flavoured. We recently tried the lala for the first time, it's also really good. Atmosphere was stuffy and hot, and the service was rather slow. But that just shows how good the hokkien Mee and fried rice is for me to keep coming back .

An unassuming branch in Damansara. The setup is good as you can enjoy dining there without soaking up the cooking wok-hei smell from regular daichow. Hokkien mee fried with sufficient wok-hei, bitter gourd pork soup was tasty & generous with meat. Totally nailed the yingyong Cantonese fried noodle!! The prawns were fresh and flavourful.

It's been a long time since I visited Uptown Hokkien Mee after MCO, and I was pleasantly surprised! They've done a great renovation—the place looks much better, and I love the creative design. It really adds to the overall dining experience. This time, their Wat Dan Hor was absolutely delicious! The dish had just the right amount of wok hei, making it flavorful and fragrant. Definitely one of the best I’ve had in a while. We used to love their fried rice as well and plan to order it on our next visit. Hopefully, it’ll be just as good as before and won’t let us down!

Hokkien mee taste was decent. It's not bad but not great either. Good enough to satisfy cravings. Opens till late night for people who want to have late supper. The chilli was watery.
